2009 NFL Football Preview - Tennessee Titans
The Bookie often adds at least a point to Tennessee every time they play for a coaching advantage . Jeff Fisher, the longest tenured NFL coach, is entering his 15th season patrolling the Houston/Memphis/Tennessee sidelines, and his quietly and efficiently gone about his business the whole time. Fisher is no sort of egomaniac and consistently outcoaches his brethren, despite not being in a large media market or with lots of money to keep stars. The Titans were 13-3 last year but the playoff home loss to Baltimore was a game of 'what ifs' - Tennessee committed three turnovers, 12 penalties and the Ravens kicked a game-winning field goal after being aided by a big completion that should have been voided because the snap came after the play clock hit zero.

Kerry Collins should be again in charge of QB'ing the Titans after re-signing for two years in the offseason. Running back Chris Johnson, with his 4.24 speed in the 40, is back to lead the way (injured knee in the playoff game). Power back LenDale White also had 200 carries last year, and the Titans add Javon Ringer, who led the country in carries at Michigan State last fall. There should be an upgrade at receiver, as the first draft choice was Kenny Britt of Rutgers and fifth-year wideout Nate Washington comes over from Pittsburgh. The O-line allowed only 12 sacks last fall, and longtime vet Kevin Mawae returns to lead that unit. The defense returns every starter except for Albert Haynesworth, who left for Washington in the first nine-figure contract for a D-lineman in history. Six players on the two-deep had between 3.5 and 7 sacks last year! Tennessee also finished sixth in the league in interceptions, and returns everyone notable from that unit.

ASK the bookie? - So will the Titans again be able to replicate their success in the rigorous AFC South? After a 12-3 ATS start to last season (the season finale was a 23-0 meaningless loss to Indy), all signs point to yes, especially if the linesmaker continues to disrespect Fisher. The Titans get the first-place schedule but if they can throw the ball downfield at all to loosen up defenses from crowding Johnson and White, then they easily duplicate last year's regular season success.
